Jan Seva Samiti Sanchalit, Shri M. D. Shah Mahila College of Arts and Commerce’s, Post Graduate Department of History, in academic collaboration with Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi, (ICHR, MHRD), organized a two day International webinar on ‘RE_WRITING HISTORY: CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGES’ on 17th & 18th August 2020. Over 700 people took part in this webinar from South Africa, Bali, Indonesia and many states of India. The webinar was conducted on ZOOM and streamed live on YouTube also.
Chief speaker of the first session, Ms. Kanyakumarie Padayachee, from Durban University of Technology, South Africa, stressed on the significant aspects of the history in South Africa which claims that Mahatma Gandhi was criticized by the indigenous people under the colonial British rulers. She argued that this specific history needs to be discussed and re-written. Ms. D. Vidyalaxmi, was moderator for this session.
In the second session, webinar convener Dr. Meruprabha Mishra invited Prof. Dr. Sitaram Dubey, B.H.U. Varanasi to present his Key note address. Prof. Dr. Suresh Mishra, Indore, Dr. Maherjyoti Sangle, Mumbai presented very revealing and expressive papers for students, teachers and scholars. Chairperson of this session Prof. Dr. Vibhuti Patel also presented her paper and reviewed the papers presented. IQAC coordinator, Ms. Shubha Aacharya proposed vote of thanks.
Next day on 18th Aug, Dr.Vatsala Shukla, moderated the session. Many subject experts like Dr. Ranjana Mishra, Lucknow, Dr. Ami Adhar, Agra, Prof. Dr. Ramkumar Ahirwar, Ujjain, Dr. Madhumita Bandhopadhyaya, Mumbai, Shri. Raj Gopal Singh Verma Agra presented their well thought research papers. Chairperson of the session, Dr. Ranjana Mishra reviewed all the papers and said that all the papers were very well illustrative, informative and thought provoking.
In the valedictory session Dr. Meruprabha Mishra presented the report of the two days international webinar. Chief Patron Dr. Deepak Deshpande, Registrar, SNDT Women’s University, gave the key note address and emphatically spoke on rewriting history of Maharashtra with special reference to Raja Shivaji Maharaj. Hon. Secretary of Jan Seva Samiti, Dr. Bipin Bhai Mehata, wished all the participants, guesta and the students. Principal Dr. Deepa Sharma gave the closing remarks while Ms. D. Vidyalaxmi, coordinator P.G., proposed vote of thanks. College administration, Principal Dr. Deepa Sharma and other professors of the college, Dr. Arun Kumar Mishra, Dr. Mahendra Guha, Dr. Manoj Mishra, Dr. Rajesh Chheda, Mrs. Seema Dalvi, Mrs. Soniya Sahane, Mrs. Hema Mukane and Mr. bhavin Joshi also contributed significantly to make this webinar a success.
